The Department of Ecology’s Stormwater Sampling Manual: A Guide for the Industrial Stormwater General Permit was published last month and is now available online. The manual is intended to provide guidance for facilities conducting sampling on their own and provides step-by-step procedures for sampling and reporting data according to permit requirements. According to the Department, it also includes “new guidance on storm drain solids sampling, which applies to certain industrial facilities discharging stormwater to Puget Sound Sediment Cleanup Sites such as the Lower Duwamish Waterway in Seattle, and Commencement Bay in Tacoma.” Stormwater sampling is required for facilities operating under the Industrial Stormwater General Permit, which governs facilities conducting industrial activities that discharge stormwater, directly or indirectly, to surface waters.
