The Seminar Group will present a seminar on “Permitting Strategies for Large Controversial Projects in Washington State and the Northwest” on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in Seattle.  Permitting large infrastructure projects has long been a complex process involving numerous agencies with overlapping land use and environmental regulatory authority.  Recent controversies surrounding coal, crude-by-rail, Shell Oil's Arctic water drilling, and other projects in the Pacific Northwest have made this difficult process even more protracted, polarized and prone to litigation.

TMW attorneys James Tupper and Sarah Mack will speak on panels providing overviews of the legal requirements for permitting and permit appeals. James’ panel will cover state and local permitting, NEPA/SEPA requirements, ESA Section 7 consultation, and Clean Water Act compliance.  Sarah’s panel will address building a record for permit appeals and factoring appeals into project schedules.
